“Ghorepani Poon Hill trekking, also known as small Annapurna Circuit trekking, is one of the
most accessible sunrise points in the Himalayas. The magnificent mountain scenery and the
richness in hidden treasure of Nepalese culture and tradition validate the popularity of
Ghorepani Poon Hill trekking. This trek offers a wonderful opportunity to witness the beauty of
the Annapurna region with a short trek. The trekking trail passes through the thick forest,
highland scrub, exotic flora and fauna, dense rhododendron spread, magnolia and myriad of
orchids. Just about every angle is a tantalizing glimpse of Mt. Fishtail (6993m), Annapurna
(8091m) and Dhaulagiri (8167m) range on the initial part of the tour is breathtaking. On the
excursion to Poon Hill (3210m) – one of the most spectacular mountain spots on earth, one
can enjoy the entire mountain ranges; covering red and pink rays of the sun in full bloom at the
sunset and sunrise.

In the evening, you may take a rest or take an outing to the impressive locale of Thamel, a popular tourist junction in Kathmandu. You could be spending hours strolling around the
narrow streets of this tourist magnet of color, chaos, charms, and chimes and not be at all aware of it. Perhaps, some
rickshaw riding and some antique shopping while you are at it.

We drive to Naya Pul early in the morning and start the trek from there. We pass through sub-tropical valley forests, sometimes on the carved trail on the side of the cliff. The trail begins with an easy walk towards Birethanti(1015m) along the Modi Khola (river). The trail leads you towards Bhurungdi Khola along with great scenery, passing through several countryside villages all the way up to Tikhedhunga. We will be staying overnight at a local lodge/teahouse in Tikhedhunga.
After breakfast, we will prepare for the long uphill hike to Ulleri which has 3,200 steps stone staircase and amazing landscape
with views of the valley and the Annapurnas. This scenery is sure to boost your morale to climb up these lengthy steps and
encourage you to keep going. From Ulleri, we ascend more gently through the forest of oaks and rhododendrons, which is also the
national flower of Nepal. The trail continues uphill to Ghorepani where we will have excellent views of the entire Annapurna Range
After a short walk from Ulleri, the trail leads you through the rhododendron forest, the national flower of Nepal. Then the trail continues uphill to Ghorepani where we will have excellent views of the entire Annapurna Range and Dhaulagiri. We stay overnight at a teahouse in Ghorepani.
To catch the sunrise over the Himalayas, we make an early morning climb along the steep trail to the viewpoint of Poon Hill, the most popular trekking destination of the Annapurna region and a great viewpoint to enjoy amazing views of Mustang, Pokhara and more than 20 of the highest mountains including the close-up views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges and a little less distinguished view of Machapuchre further to the east. The snowy peaks of the high mountains loom above and around us glowing in the morning light.
After taking photographs and a brief refreshment, we gradually make our way back to Ghorepani. After breakfast, we head east and climb a nearby ridge. We descend through rhododendron forests and pass by spectacular waterfalls along the way until we finally reach Tadapani to spend the night. The initial part of the today’s trek is a steep uphill trail before it steeply descends through the thick forest of Banthati. The day concludes with a steep climb to Tadapani which is located on the top of the ridge.
From Tadapani, we make a steep descent through the dense and dark forest. This part of the trek will be through a thick forest of old rhododendron trees, that when are in bloom, actually turn into gardens of dazzling red flowers when seen from the air or from afar. By afternoon, depending upon the season of travel, you will be pleasantly surprised by the sight of cherry blossoms in bloom on the slopes on the other side of the ravine. After trekking for a while, we enter the village of Ghandruk, a slope settlement
with stone houses mostly inhabited by the Gurung people. Along with enjoying the towering views of the Fishtail, Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli mountains, we also acquaint ourselves with the simple but rich cultural traditions of the Gurung people at the Gurung Museum in Ghandruk.
After a brief and rewarding pit stop at Ghandruk, we trek to Naya Pul and then drive to Pokhara. The trek from Ghandruk to Naya Pul will be downhill all the way to Birethanti. We step onto a staircase paved with stone slabs, curving in and out of the village followed by terraced farms. It keeps on going down almost without any break from Ghandruk until Modi Khola river valley. By the time we arrive at Birethanti, some of us might feel like we just participated in a downhill marathon. But our ordeal is not over yet. From Birethanti, a half-hour’s walk takes us into Naya Pul. The journey on foothills of Annapurna comes to an end at Nayapul, from where we drive to Pokhara. We will spend the night in a hotel in Pokhara
